CD: $11.00 (US) - NEW ($9.90 with *discount) |
GLOBE RECORDS |
2019 | |
rock, Americana, twang, acoustic, soul, pop, country, rockabilly: CD version. Twang-Ucopia (Balanced Diet) is the debut release of New Copasetics, recorded "live," Big Pink-style in the living room studios of Global Mobile in the San Francisco Bay Area with minimal overdubbing. This brings together a quartet of veteran S. F. Bay Area players with ridiculous credits and a curated playlist of originals and select covers from seminal artists such as Rockpile (Nick Lowe & Dave Edmunds), Ry Cooder, Delbert McClinton, Gary Nicholson, Little Feat, Don Covay, The Simms Twins, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, Manual Galban and L. D. Armstrong. This project has been developing for several years, with personnel changes and honing of the musical directions. With the recent addition of Dallis Craft, the bands' sound, material and development of harmonies and duets came together in a powerful way to warrant committing it all to vinyl and CD.New Copasetics players have ridiculous credits: Tim Eschliman (acoustic string bass, vocals, worked with Etta James, Commander Cody & His Western Airmen, Jesse Colin Young, Christmas Jug Band, played on the Grammy-nominated Garden Of Joy album by Maria Muldaur), Sean Allen (electric guitar, steel guitar, vocals, worked with Carlene Carter, Commander Cody & His Western Airmen, Tommy Thomsen, member of Western Swing Hall Of Fame), Dallis Craft (piano, vocals, worked with Bruce Willis, K.T. Oslin), and Kevin Hayes (drums, worked with Robert Cray, Bonnie Hayes & The Wild Combo). Note: "(Tonight I'm) Drinkin' Tomorrow Away" and "The Trouble With the Truth" not included on LP.

GLOBE RECORDS |
2007 | |
oldies, pop, soul, rock, rhythm & blues: Sandi and the Accents was the premier rock 'n' roll band of the mid-sixties in San Diego. Their first single, Better Watch Out Boy, climbed to the top ten in San Diego and top 20 in LA in 1964, and was followed by three top 20 singles in the region. They appeared on television shows like those of Lloyd Thaxton and Regis Philbin, and routinely sold out the largest venues in Southern California. They opened for The Rolling Stones, The Byrds, Herman's Hermits, The Righteous Brothers, and The Coasters, and according to a regional radio station poll were more popular than any band except The Beatles. This CD is a compilation of their hits together with live recordings of their fans' favorites. Members include Tony Johnson, Sandi Rouse & Gabe Lapano. Included in this CD are the Accents' four original singles and fourteen tracks recorded live at the San Diego Community Concourse and other venues in 1965 and 1966. You may have been there! The sound quality is not up to today's standards but the performances are everything you remember and more.
THE EDLOS |
RETROPELLA |
CD: $10.00 (US) - NEW ($9.00 with *discount) |
AURIGA |
2003 | |
acapella, rock, soul, rhythm & blues: The Edlos do the 60s - Far Out! Take a far out ride through the 60s and early 70s with the Edlos. There are some very clever adaptations of songs we have never heard arranged a cappella before such as Jethro Tull's "Aqualung", Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit", Led Zeplin's "Stairway to Heaven" (all 6 minutes of it) and - would you believe - "Tequila", trumpets and all? There are also a couple of a cappella standards done with a twist such as "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (they call it "Wimoweh"). "Hurdy Gurdy Man" is sung employing a vocal technique explored in the Baroque period called "hocket" according to the liner notes. It's a very interesting choice because it almost sounds like an exaggerated version of Donovan's own style. There are not a lot of slick production techniques or effects used on this CD, but there are very creative a cappella arrangements of some pop classics.

THE EDLOS |
SAMPLER |
CD: $9.25 (US) - NEW ($8.33 with *discount) |
AURIGA |
1998 | |
acapella, rock, soul, rhythm & blues: The Edlos are one the best-known groups in contemporary a cappella. Drawing on material from their previous three CDs, this Sampler is your basic Edlos 101, with a couple of new songs for extra credit: "Garbage Man" and "Mrs. Claus." This California group is known for their humor, and there is plenty of that, but there is plenty of substance as well: their solid education in the fundamentals of a cappella singing and the styles of barbershop and doo wop have endeared them to fans for many years past, and for many years to come!
