country, rock, acoustic, americana, folk: Brand new release by this original roots-based Sonoma County alternative folk group. "A down-home meeting of British folk-rock duo Richard & Linda Thompson and The Flying Burrito Brothers". Traces of 10,000 Maniacs and Lucinda Williams. This San Francisco Bay Area-based Alt-folk group's new album digs deep into American Roots with a wide-open Sonoma County style on ten new original songs and two classics, Bob Dylan's "You Ain't Goin Nowhere" and Johnny Cash's "Get Rhythm." Using 12-strings, lap steels, harmonica and keyboards on top of a solid core of guitars and vocals, this release tips it's hat to Eddie Cochran ("Little Bird"), echoes the glory days of Gram Parsons ("Whistle of the Wheels") and brings back shades of The Beatles, Beau Brummels, and The Lovin Spoonful ("If You Took The Time," "In The Summertime"). The group has received critical acclaim, featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine and Performing Songwriter Magazine. Solid Air has been performing together for over twelve years and were nominated for the "Wammies" S.F. Weekly's Alternative Music Awards. Their song "Postcard" was featured in Fast Folk Audio Magazine.

rock, rockabilly, rhythm & blues, country: Recorded live at Armadillo World Headquaters in Austin, Texas. Recorded at the legendary Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, TX, this 1973 concert captures a young Commander Cody, hearty and energetic, able to traverse rockabilly, Western swing, jump blues, and honky-tonk in a single bound. This quintessential live recording features the classic version of the band, which included guitarist Bill Kirchen (who'd later embark on an impressive solo career). Cody and the boys are at their best here, whether spitting out spirited rockabilly ("Good Rockin' Tonight"), indulging in some hippie/stoner humor ("Down to Seeds & Stems Again Blues"), or even adding a Cajun touch ("Diggy Liggy Lo"). Toward the end of the disc, the band launches into its unofficial theme song, "Too Much Fun," with all the emotional commitment of "The National Anthem," and of course, much more fun. When wading throught the confusing waters of Cody's many live albums from various eras, fans are recommended to begin with this one.

rock, rhythm & blues, country: This was the debut album by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. LOST IN THE OZONE was released in 1971, after the band moved to San Francisco from Michigan. The group's mix of Western swing, country, rockabilly, and novelty songs was not typical of the Haight-Ashbury music scene. In retrospect, this album, with its earthy mix of assorted genres culled from the early days of rock & roll, seems to have been ahead of its time. They only other Bay Area band similar to them at the time was the New Riders of the Purple Sage, but that group had more of a country-inflected sound. On LOST IN THE OZONE, this outfit rollicks in the best possible ways. They sometimes sound like they're on the verge of tipping over ("Wine Do Yer Stuff"), while other times come across as achingly earnest ("Daddy's Gonna Treat You Right"). "Hot Rod Lincoln" became a hit for Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen and helped put them on the map. This album and its three successors (recorded with the original lineup) are all examples of top-notch American roots music.
