Solid Air is a roots-based original music group based in the north side of the San Francisco Bay Area. Solid Air founding members Allegra Broughton (vocals, guitar) and Sam Page (vocals, electric & acoustic bass) perform as a duo and as a band. They are both California natives.
Allegra Broughton and Sam Page started performing together in 1983. They expanded to work as a 4-piece group (as well as duo) in 1990. Broughton has been performing her original songs since 1976, and is the main song-writer for Solid Air; she and Page also collaborate.
The group has received critical acclaim for live performances and for their CD, Love and Desire (reviews), featured in the Jan./Feb. 1995 issue of Acoustic Guitar Magazine and reviewed in the Mar./Apr. 1995 Performing Songwriter Magazine. Solid Air performs regularly at the Napa Valley Music Festival; Allegra is one of the hosts for the Festival's Songwriter Showcase.
Solid Air has been performing together for over twelve years at festivals, fairs, nightclubs, concerts, etc. and have four previous albums together, receiving airplay nationally and abroad. They were featured in the Jan./Feb. '95 issue of Acoustic Guitar Magazine and were nominated for the 1992 "WAMMIES", S.F. Weekly's Alternative Music Awards. Their song "Postcard" was featured in the May 1994 Fast Folk Audio Magazine and the Love and Desire CD made the 1995 Top Folk Playlist on the University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth's WSMU-FM 91.
Sam Page has recorded with Texas singer/songwriter Sarah Elizabeth Campbell (A Little Tenderness/DejaDisc); Paraguayan harp group Platero (El Rio de la Plata); Celtic guitarist Steve Baughman (The Owner's Daughter), and many independent projects.
Solid Air has shared the limelight with many artists on festival and concert stages: Donovan, the Sundogs, Taj Mahal, Maria Muldaur, Dave Mason, Leon Russell, Ferron, Johnny Colla (Huey Lewis & the News), the Edlos, Arlo Guthrie, John Sebastian, Louden Wainwright III, etc. They have opened shows for both Karla Bonoff and John Stewart at San Francisco's popular nightclub the Great American Music Hall and for Peter Rowan at Berkeley's legendary Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse.
They are repeat performers on S.F.'s prestigious "Live radio show to the world - West Coast Live" and were chosen from thousands of applicants to perform at Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, as well as placing in the Kerrville Music Festival Songwriter Showcase, hosting the Breakfast Club and playing a showcase set at California's premier outdoor music event, the Strawberry Music Festival, and gracing the stages of popular regional events (Gilroy Garlic Festival, Gravenstein Apple Fair, Sausalito Art Festival, etc.)
