blues, rhythm & blues, americana: Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, where she worked with the Metropolitan Blues All Stars (June Appal Records, Taxim Records) the self-taught Caroline Dahl is a master pianist of the American roots styles of boogie-woogie, blues, vintage R&B, swing, country-swing, and roots R&R. On "No Hats," her mostly-original debut release, she is featured on acoustic grand piano and accordion with no other accompaniment than trap drums, featuring the best of S. F. Bay Area expert sticksmen: Jimmy Sanchez (Roy Rogers, Boz Skaggs, Rhythmtown-Jive), Kent Bryson (the Johnny Nocturne Band), John Hanes (Pearl Harbour & The Explosions, Paris Slim), and Bowen Brown (Swing Session, Indigo Swing, John Lee Hooker). Caroline Dahl, piano player for the driving American roots R&B group, Rhythmtown-Jive (Globe Records), has also worked many shows with Brenda Boykin, Jerry Shelfer, Those Darn Accordions!, The Lickettes (formerly with Dan Hicks), The Melotones, and The Rhythm Sheiks

rock, accordion, novelty, polka: The clown princes (& princesses) of accordion come back in full force, pushing their limitless sonic possibilities - in hard rock, traditional polkas & instrumental tangos. Originals about aliens ("They Came for Accordions"), couch-potato therapy ("Kick My Butt"), bluegrass nightmares ("Hippie With a Banjo") and a disaster that transpired in San Luis Obispo's famed Bubblegum Alley ("Wall of Gum"). Polka fans can enjoy a Tex-Mex tale of torment ("Mucho De Nada") and bounce to a BBQ blast with rollicking vocals by 84-year-old tattooed crooner Clyde Forsman ("First Bratwurst of Summer"). A TDA! tradition, accordion "enhancements" of classics continues with War's "Low Rider" and Devo's "Uncontrollable Urge." ...fun, quirky & pure dynamite.

country, rock, acoustic, americana, folk: Brand new release by this original roots-based Sonoma County alternative folk group. "A down-home meeting of British folk-rock duo Richard & Linda Thompson and The Flying Burrito Brothers". Traces of 10,000 Maniacs and Lucinda Williams. This San Francisco Bay Area-based Alt-folk group's new album digs deep into American Roots with a wide-open Sonoma County style on ten new original songs and two classics, Bob Dylan's "You Ain't Goin Nowhere" and Johnny Cash's "Get Rhythm." Using 12-strings, lap steels, harmonica and keyboards on top of a solid core of guitars and vocals, this release tips it's hat to Eddie Cochran ("Little Bird"), echoes the glory days of Gram Parsons ("Whistle of the Wheels") and brings back shades of The Beatles, Beau Brummels, and The Lovin Spoonful ("If You Took The Time," "In The Summertime"). The group has received critical acclaim, featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine and Performing Songwriter Magazine. Solid Air has been performing together for over twelve years and were nominated for the "Wammies" S.F. Weekly's Alternative Music Awards. Their song "Postcard" was featured in Fast Folk Audio Magazine.

new orleans, zydeco, cajun: 1st Globe release by the West Coast's premier Zydeco/Cajun band, original and traditional music. Leader and accordionist Richard Domingue, from South Louisiana, is affluent in Cajun and French and keeps the band focused on both authentic and original zydeco and cajun music, with a touch of New Orleans funk. This is not another copy band: they have their own unique sound, which is interesting even by Louisiana standards. Last year they played the Crawfish Festival in Breaux Bridge, the premier Zydeco/Cajun Festival in Louisiana, which is unheard of for a California band. They can play a sit-down show or street dance with equally high impact. They have set sales records in several big festivals including the Sacramento Jazz Festival, Mammoth Lakes Jazz Festvial, San Juan Jazz Festival, and Victoria Jazz Festival. They play at least 40 festivals a year, and work the club circuit from the West Coast to The Crescent City. They have an ever growing fan base that includes a strong core of Cajun-dancers just about everywhere they perform.

rock: Singer/Songwriter Cole Tate and his band draw on the influences of Rock, Blues, R & B, And Country music. blues: Blues & Rhythm Magazine wrote, 'Mountain Top West Coast Blues Session' brings together four of the finest blues musicians working on the West Coast, for a CD that will be an essential purchase for all lovers of that genre.' This 15 track CD features Gary Smith on harmonica, Paris Slim on guitar, Johnny Ace on bass and Walter Shufflesworth on drums -- and all four share vocal parts. This CD was born during the filming of Johnny Ace's instructional video, 'Ace on Blus Bass'. Mountain Top had assembled the very best in Bay Area blues talent. As we filmed, we couldn't help tripping over the blues chemistry of these four -all band leaders in their own right. Original songs and covers by Screaming Jay Hawkins, John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Reed, Lowell Fulson, and Willie Dixon. HARP: Gary Smith, was in the original Charles Ford Band He also played with Charlie Musselwhite, Luther Tucker, Hi Tide Harris, Nick Gravenites, and Ron Thompson, and played on Sonny Rhodes' classic, 'I DON'T WANT MY BLUES COLORED BRIGHT'. GUITAR: Paris Slim heard the blues calling when he was 16 in Paris, France. He followed his vision to Oakland, earned permanent sideman honors in Troyce Key's notorious ELI'S MILE HIGH CLUB house hand, and worked with Lowell Fulson, Jimmy McCracklin, Big Mama Thornton, and Sonny Rhodes. Handy-nominated Paris Slim delivers a dynamic power on the guitar that is both "aesthetic" and 'in the alley' at the same time. BASS: JOHNNY ACE, from Queens, N.Y., began his career in 1966 in Manhattan's lower East side. He recorded with the Brooklyn Blues Busters and appeared with Victoria Spivey, toured with Charlie Musselwhite, John Lee Hooker and Otis Rush. DRUMS: Big Walter Shufflesworth's tours with Lightning Slim, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Big Walter Horton earned him his graduate degree in Blues Roadology. Walter is the driving force of the Dynatones, a household name on the Bay Area blues scene with six albums.

rock, accordion, novelty, polka: This San Francisco-based band's latest recording, captures the group's quirky worldview and squeezebox-fueled sound, produced by Scott Mathews (John Hiatt, Dick Dale). This time out, TDA offers discerning listeners original rock songs about Japanese sci-fi thrillers: "Mothra" and '60s visionaries: "Them Hippies Was Right" and an original polka featuring a ripping solo accordion by the legendary Dick Contino (as does "Mambo Triste"):"The Hotsy Totsy Polka",and freaks of other sorts: "Hamsterman", and the Loch Ness monster:"Deathbed Confession" and brand-new instrumentals, offering a taste of the band's more-traditional side: "Paco's Dream" and "Ramune."
