swing, jazz, blues, rhythm & blues: This Johnny Nocturne CD is unique in that it features all three vocalist that have worked with the band over the years. All the tracks are previously unreleased. Brenda Boykin performs a beautiful rendition of "When Did You Leave Heaven," Kim Nalley is her usual sassy self with "That Cat's Evil," and Ms. Dee comes on with a bluesy take on "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You." Firmin and the band continue with the unique mix of jump blues, small band swing, soul and jazz. "Good to the Damn Bone," is the first tenor sax, B-3 instrumental feature by the band. Firmin and Henry Salvia swing through this classic Willis Jackson blues head. This CD is a good introduction to this band if you haven't heard them yet. This is followed by a mix of jazz, blues and Latin music that culminates with Brenda's original composition, Big, Fine Momma. Brenda and Eric are joined throughout this CD by local musicians Babatundse, Charles McNeal, Ron Belcher, Raul Ramirez, John Haynes, Austin DeLong and Bobby Tynes. The style of the other CD, BACKPORCH TALES, reverts to the format of Bourbon and Cornbread featuring Brenda and Eric or Eric alone. It reflects the rural and yet eclectic influences they bring to jazz, blues and beyond. And they take on all these styles of music with joy and abandon and perfect harmony, whether they are doing the Maple Leaf Rag or Always On My Mind. This is classical American music at it's best.

jazz: This debut CD fits squarely into the tradition of straight-ahead acoustic jazz piano trios. It features Mike playing on a vintage Steinway B grand piano, Tadau Shigamatsu on upright bass, and Diego Vogline on drums. The recording features standard tunes such as Stella by Starlight and My Foolish heart, and jazz standards such as Blue Bossa and Lazy Bird, as well as several original compositions. This CD presents a variety of styles and tempos including swing, uptempo, latin, and ballads. The recording was made live, direct to two-track, with only 1-2 takes for each tune. After an absence of many years, Mike Weiner returns to the jazz scene, playing regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area. His major influences are: McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, Red Garland, and Thelonius Monk. Tadau Shigamatsu hails from Sapporo Japan, but has lived in San Francisco for the past several years. His major influence has been Ron Carter. Diego Vogline has been one of the most popular jazz drummers in San Francisco; he recently moved to New York where he performs regularly.
