| blues, funk, New Orleans, rhythm & blues, swing, rockabilly: Big Sale! This 3rd RJ album brings the band's diverse American roots into a solid blues focus with the addition of Johnnie Johnson on seven cuts, who writes three of them, including the sublime mood of "Johnnie's Idea" and the classic stroll of "Slow Drag" It also features a cameo by east coast R & B diva, Rahni Raines, and at times, the full three-man New Orleans-style horn section that the band features at their Mardi Gras Mambofest performances: Rob Sudduth (tenor sax - Huey Lewis, Amos Garrett), Ed Early (trombone - Albert King), and Michael Peloquin (bari sax). With six other originals mostly by lead vocalist/bassist Tim Eschliman (Commander Cody, Etta James), an Irma Thomas classic, a New Orleans brass band romp and a Pinetop Smith Boogie Woogie, a full pallette of top shelf rhythm & blues is delivered on this recording - topped off by drummer Jimmy Sanchez's crazed full- bore second line deviation, "Mighty Fine Day." Also appearing are Caroline Dahl, Stevie Gurr, Anthony Paule and Steve Freund. Total Running Time: 56 minutes. | |||||

2010 | |
| new orleans, zydeco, cajun: Gator Beat decided to have some fun. They wrote three songs, including the title track, "Let's Dance". Gator Beat fans will immediately recognize the sound which distinguishes this band from all the others. It's got that good time vibe throughout and the players keep the energy going, driven by Beau Bradbury's "on top of his game" drumming. David Scott, longtime GB sax man, hits his stride and blows the lid off Clifton Chenier's "Ride 'Em Cowboy". Willard Blackwell digs deep and comes up with his best vocals to date, crooning on GB original "Just An Angel" and delivering a knockout punch on Jon Cleary's "C'mon Second Line". The band is running on all cylinders on USS Zydecoldsmobile with guitar man Randy Quan in the driver's seat. It closes out with Randy's original cut which is not only beautiful and groovy, it has Gator Beat written all over it. Cutting a new CD takes what is already there and bumps it up a notch. This time, it was a big bump. | |||||

THE MISSING MOONLIGHTERS - LIVE / STUDIO CLOSET TAPES |
2-CD: $13.50 (US) - NEW ($12.15 with *discount) |
GLOBE RECORDS |
2008 | |
| rock, pop, rockabilly, rhythm & western, western swing, roots: 2-CD set ($17.98 list). All previously unreleased tracks from the band that was led by Bill Kirchen and "moonlighted" from Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen... later to become his backing group. This release presents for the first time many popular mainstays of the live shows as well as some seldom heard, experimental studio recordings. These songs represent the early "Rhythm & Western" sound of the group as well as the later four-man, skinny-tie, rock/pop outfit. These recordings have a live-ness and songwriting that's missing from the two previous releases. Featuring Bill Kirchen, Tony Johnson, Richard Casanova (George Strait), Steve Mackay (Iggy Pop), Steve Fishell (Emmy Lou Harris), Don Kennedy, Rick Higginbotham, Tim Eschliman (Rhythmtown-Jive), Austin de Lone (Eggs Over Easy) with special guests Mark Karan (Ratdog) and James Henry. The live CD includes essential tunes that were staples of the band's live shows but didn't appear on the 2 previously existing releases, like Carl Perkins' "Boppin' the Blues," a few Rockpile numbers and the bands traditional rave-up set-closer, Warren Smith's "Ubangi Stomp." 3 songs from the early "Rhythm & Western" days of the band are included: the Cajun fiddling of "Mississippi Sawyer," "Big Mamou" which featured the 3-man section of fiddle, tenor sax & pedal steel and the sassy "Sittin' On Top Of The World," which adds to that section Bill Kirchen's wild trombone. Live recordings are also from Keystone Palo Alto, The Saddlerack (KFAT Fat-Fry), Keystone Berkeley, and Rohan's Rockpile. The studio CD, on the other hand, brings to light a more experimental side of the band. Three of the tracks were recorded live to 4-track in an afternoon as a pre-production session at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco and when heard by Austin's friend Nick Lowe, led to the arrangements for the recording of the Moonlighter's "Rush Hour" album, which Nick produced in London. Many of the other tracks are song demos of originals by drummer Tony Johnson or bassist Tim Eschliman, and several of those were recorded at Tim and Austin de Lone's at-the-time home studio, the earliest iteration of Globe Studios. Although not all of these recordings were Moonlighter projects per se, they happened to have been recorded by the band members and in some cases led to additions to the band's set lists. Studio recordings are also from Sonoma Recorders and Prairie Sun. Mastered by Fred Catero, Tim Eschliman and Tony Johnson. Packaged in all-recyclable mini-double jacket format. | |||||

| oldies, pop, soul, rock, rhythm & blues: Sandi and the Accents was the premier rock 'n' roll band of the mid-sixties in San Diego. This CD is a compilation of their hits together with live recordings of their fans' favorites. Members include Tony Johnson, Sandi Rouse & Gabe Lapano. Included in this CD are the Accents' four original singles and fourteen tracks recorded live at the San Diego Community Concourse and other venues in 1965 and 1966. You may have been there! GLOBE RECORDS |
2005 | |
| blues, rockabilly: (Pre-release sale) Lightning's struck at the crossroads, and from it has arisen the alliance of two modern blues masters: Billy C. Farlow and Rich Kirch. The bold, soulful lyrics and screaming harmonica of Farlow, coupled with the wailing electric guitar riffs of Kirch create a driving rhythmic force that interweaves an eclectic blend of traditional blues and Southern-fried rockabilly, celebrating Americana roots styles with foot-stomping vigor. Farlow is noted for his nine-year career as Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen's frontman and harmonica player, responsible for penning several of their hits. Kirch's credits include a 13-year career as the late John Lee Hooker's lead guitarist and band leader. The two musical veterans honed their chops in the '60s and '70s hotbeds of blues revived Chicago and Detroit, emulating such legends as Howlin' Wolf, Hound Dog Taylor, and James Cotton and collaborating with such masters as John Lee Hooker, Sippie Wallace, Big Joe Williams, Junior Wells, and Charlie Musselwhite, among other greats: from Chuck Berry to Eric Clapton. Both artists boast lengthy discographies and worldwide touring acclaim. Alligator Crawl is the duo's first collaborative effort featuring renegade Billy C. originals and Kirch's electric savvy. The duo will be touring the Bay Area and beyond this summer to promote the new album. Includes special guests Keith Crossan (Tommy Castro) and Bill Gibson (Huey Lewis & The News). | |||||

LAWNBALL |
CD: $11.25 (US) - NEW ($10.12 with *discount) |
GLOBE RECORDS |
2004 | |
| rock, accordion, novelty, polka, pop: Big Sale! TDA's sixth release finds the San Francisco-based band once again powering through an electric set of original, squeezebox-fueled rock and pop songs. The new CD is (of course) infused with TDA's easygoing humor and wry take on the world with (gasp!) even a bit of heartwarming sentiment stirred into the eclectic musical melting pot. "Lawnball" also finds the band breaking out of the ''all accordions, all the time" mode with a few special guest spots: Bay Area artists lending a hand include Nik Phelps (trumpet) and Jim Rothermel (clarinet). While accordions are still undeniably the name of the game on "Lawnball," the additional instruments are a happy addition to the sonic mix; bandleader Paul Rogers couldn't resist sprinkling in some piano and acoustic guitar as well. Classic rockers Edgar Winter and Led Zeppelin get the nod this time around for TDA's twisted cover treatment, with a blistering version of Winter's "Frankenstein" and a wailing medley of Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" and "Black Dog" rounding out the record. The Zeppelin medley features new band member Susie Davis on lead vocals. She is a veteran of the rock arenas, with an impressive list of major tours to her credit, including stints with Sheila E, Mick Jagger, Daryl Hall, Pat Benatar and Melissa Etheridge. TDA also welcomes vocalist/accordionist Carri Abrahms into the fold on "Lawnball." Her credits include the San Francisco Symphony Choir as well as a tour of duty with San Francisco-based band Rosin Coven. TDA veterans Suzanne Garramone (accordion, vocals), Lewis Wallace (bass guitar) and Bill Schwartz (drums) complete the package. | |||||

GLOBE RECORDS |
2002 | |
| christmas, folk, acoustic, novelty, jug: [Includes Free Uncorked postcard] The release of "Uncorked" marks the silver anniversary of that momentary lapse of sanity grown to ubiquitous proportions, known as The Christmas Jug Band. This milestone recording was richly engineered by the great Fred Catero (Pointer Sisters, Santana, Barbra Streisand's "People." Sly & the Family Stone) and Arjan MacNamara, who know the idiosyncrasies of capturing acoustic eccentricities better than anyone. This irreverent crewe of Commander Cody alumni & other S F Bay Area denizens deliver a dozen season-stopping classics spearheaded by the great new classic already making a buzz,"Sanat Lost A Ho". There are also special guest appearances by Norton Buffalo (doing the Marx Brothers classic "I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas"), Texas blues master Angela Strehli, Bay Area favorite, Maria Muldaur (both on "Boogie Woogie Santa Claus"), and the great powerhouse soul-gospel of Mike Duke (Wet Willy, Delbert McClinton) on "Silent Night". Not being of a mind to under-staff such a masterpiece, the talent roster was topped off with Dan Hick's vocal back-up quartet, "The Fabulous Opinions". The marvelous original painting cover art was commissioned of Mark Keller who has created a marvelously tired and sleepy Santa being awoken by his elves in the 11th hour of Christmas Eve in a style remindful of the great Norman Rockwell. It all spells out a new Christmas tradition not to be missed! | |||||
