HI HORSE |
1997 | |
blues: Freddie Roulette is the most distinctive and creative Hawaiian lap steel guitarist in all of blues, yet his daring, often otherworldly lines and chords that shimmer with the power of a Hammond B-3 organ are known only to a hand-core group of aficionados. Originally from the Chicago area, where he worked and recorded during the Sixties with the legendary slide guitar virtuoso Earl Hooker. His recordings have been much coveted by collectors, as are his sessions as a sideman with the likes of Charlie Musselwhite, John Lee Hooker, and Harvey Mandel. Now, at long last, comes Roulette's first album as a leader in nearly a quarter century. For the session, he returned to Chicago and hooked up with bassist Willie Rent and the Gents, one of the Windy City's busiest and tightest blues combos. | |||||
