| LARRY DUNN |
ONE OF THESE DAYS |
CD: $13.00 (US) - NEW ($11.70 with *discount) |
NEW BLUE CLASSICS |
2007 | |
| blues, rhythm & blues: Begins a new chapter for Larry as he continues to create music in a voice that has become uniquely his own but at the same time draws directly from the immensely rich American Music Tradition that songwriters and musicians the world over invariably turn to for inspiration. He has had the opportunity to work with Bo Diddley, Eddie Money, Steve Cropper, Big Joe Turner, Mary Wells and Sir Mac Rice (the man that penned "Mustang Sally" and "Respect Yourself"). "A rootsy affair that touches on blues, Tex-Mex, and jazz, former Dynatones' guitarist Dunn delivers wonderfully tailored tunes that manage to highlight his ultra-hip, yet ultra-musical guitar playing. His bluesy, organic phrasing deftly mixes in slick modal flavorings (from Santana to Robben Ford), and his ability to outline a tangy, twisting chord progression- on the album's title track for instance- without going into chromatic la-la land is a real treat, as are his velvety octave licks. Dunn leans on spanky, mildly overdriven single-coil tones for the most part, but the album's last three cuts feature Dunn's formidable acoustic chops. Good tunes and killer playing. What's not to like." -Darrin Fox, Guitar Player Magazine, 4/08 | |||||

GLOBE RECORDS |
2005 | |
| blues, rockabilly: (Pre-release sale) Lightning's struck at the crossroads, and from it has arisen the alliance of two modern blues masters: Billy C. Farlow and Rich Kirch. The bold, soulful lyrics and screaming harmonica of Farlow, coupled with the wailing electric guitar riffs of Kirch create a driving rhythmic force that interweaves an eclectic blend of traditional blues and Southern-fried rockabilly, celebrating Americana roots styles with foot-stomping vigor. Farlow is noted for his nine-year career as Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen's frontman and harmonica player, responsible for penning several of their hits. Kirch's credits include a 13-year career as the late John Lee Hooker's lead guitarist and band leader. The two musical veterans honed their chops in the '60s and '70s hotbeds of blues revived Chicago and Detroit, emulating such legends as Howlin' Wolf, Hound Dog Taylor, and James Cotton and collaborating with such masters as John Lee Hooker, Sippie Wallace, Big Joe Williams, Junior Wells, and Charlie Musselwhite, among other greats: from Chuck Berry to Eric Clapton. Both artists boast lengthy discographies and worldwide touring acclaim. Alligator Crawl is the duo's first collaborative effort featuring renegade Billy C. originals and Kirch's electric savvy. The duo will be touring the Bay Area and beyond this summer to promote the new album. Includes special guests Keith Crossan (Tommy Castro) and Bill Gibson (Huey Lewis & The News). | |||||

SOLID AS A ROCK |
2003 | |
| blues, rock, gospel: On May 8th 2002, local songwriter, guitarist & singer Ralph Bryan, lost his battle with brain cancer. Not only was he a brilliant musician, but an extremely devoted father as well. It is for this reason some of the best musical talent Sonoma County has to offer, once again, rose to the occasion. The result of this effort, is a compilation CD featuring performances by: Willy Jordan & Souljoy, John Allair, Danny Sorentino, Micheal Barclay Blues Band, Dr. Joel Rudinow, Earl Thomas, Stony Point, Volker Strifler & the Blue Zone, the late "Big Bill" Ganaye & the Cool Tones, Solid Air, The Real Tones w/ Steve Judkins performing 3 previously unrecorded songs, including, "So Sad to be Lonesome", Ralph Bryan's last session. With the exception of some legal fees, minor recording costs and the actual, physical manufacture of the CD package itself, the sound recording "When You Were Near", was produced entirely by donation. Studio time, engineering, editing, graphics, the tracks themselves were all offered without hesitation and unconditionally. All proceeds from the sale of "When You Were Near", will be used to create a trust to fund Elena Bryan's (Ralph's 14 yr old daughter who penned the poem "When You Were Near", the inspiration for this project) college education .This is yet another sterling example of musicians and artists coming together in the true spirit of community. The result is a surprisingly diverse cross section of styles and performances from a group of very talented artists getting together to meet a single goal. | |||||
