TWANG-UCOPIA (BALANCED DIET ) |
CD: $11.00 (US) - NEW ($9.90 with *discount) |
GLOBE RECORDS |
2019 | |
rock, Americana, twang, acoustic, soul, pop, country, rockabilly: CD version. Twang-Ucopia (Balanced Diet) is the debut release of New Copasetics, recorded "live," Big Pink-style in the living room studios of Global Mobile in the San Francisco Bay Area with minimal overdubbing. This brings together a quartet of veteran S. F. Bay Area players with ridiculous credits and a curated playlist of originals and select covers from seminal artists such as Rockpile (Nick Lowe & Dave Edmunds), Ry Cooder, Delbert McClinton, Gary Nicholson, Little Feat, Don Covay, The Simms Twins, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen, Manual Galban and L. D. Armstrong. This project has been developing for several years, with personnel changes and honing of the musical directions. With the recent addition of Dallis Craft, the bands' sound, material and development of harmonies and duets came together in a powerful way to warrant committing it all to vinyl and CD.New Copasetics players have ridiculous credits: Tim Eschliman (acoustic string bass, vocals, worked with Etta James, Commander Cody & His Western Airmen, Jesse Colin Young, Christmas Jug Band, played on the Grammy-nominated Garden Of Joy album by Maria Muldaur), Sean Allen (electric guitar, steel guitar, vocals, worked with Carlene Carter, Commander Cody & His Western Airmen, Tommy Thomsen, member of Western Swing Hall Of Fame), Dallis Craft (piano, vocals, worked with Bruce Willis, K.T. Oslin), and Kevin Hayes (drums, worked with Robert Cray, Bonnie Hayes & The Wild Combo). Note: "(Tonight I'm) Drinkin' Tomorrow Away" and "The Trouble With the Truth" not included on LP.

Rock, pop: Big Sale! This all-original, no-2-songs alike, previously unreleased rock album by the Reptile Brothers features frontmen Gregory Leroy Dewey, "Duke Dagreez", Nicholas Q (Not Joe) Dewey & Tim Eschliman: 3 wacky guys from Ohio and their pals during Mill Valley's mid to late 1970s north of San Francisco music scene. This is a band full of veterans from Mad River, Country Joe & the Fish, Grootna, Eggs Over Easy, Rowdy & the Rivets, Marty Balin's Bodacious D.F., Patty LaBelle, Andy Kulberg, The Moonlighters, Commander Cody, Etta James, Big Joe Turner, Jesse Colin Young, Sky Blue, Seatrain, Lou Reed, Jerry Corbitt, Nick Lowe, David Crosby, Elvis Costello, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Band members are Vic Smith, Austin de Lone, Peter Walsh, Mike Blaney, and a special appearance on vibraphone by Dan Hicks, a sometimes drummer of the group. Other special guests are Eggs Over Easy (Austin de Lone, Brien Hopkins, Jack O'Hara) Jack O'Hara and Steve Fishell. Produced by The Reptile Brothers & Marty Balin. Not Joe Dewey's original version of the song, Runwaway, appears for the first time here, which later became a platinum seller for Marty Balin and Jefferson Starship. Gregory Dewey, Vic Smith and Marty Balin were all in the early 70s band, Bodacious D.F..
