JAZZ: Anderson is one of the founders of the Assoc. for the Advancement of Creative Musicians. Up to now, his individual sound has been under-documented, but this CD will help Fred to be recognized as an important musician in the Chicago tenor tradition, a style he helped shape in avant garde jazz. He's owned the Velvet Lounge since the early '80s & his Sunday jam sessions have gained international recognition. This album also features Fred's long-time cohorts, Tatsu Aoki on bass & Hamid Drake on drums, performing five new originals.

SOUL: "Sad Girl" is the legacy of Detroit's lost soul sister Carol Anderson who passed away in 1984, unaware of the small but loyal following she has on the underground soul scene, particularly in the U.K. where she is adored by 'Northern soul' fans. This CD features every track she cut during her short career, such as "Sad Girl", "Taking My Mind Off Love", "I'll Get Off At The Next Stop", "We've Got Enough", "Tomorrow Is Not A Promise" and others. This tribute album was compiled by David Welding who wrote the in-depth sleeve notes. Belated recognition at last for one of soul music's most underrated singers.

INTERNATIONAL: Ditte Anderson plays and sings traditional music from Sweden. Her voice, combined with the evocative sound of the nyckelharpa, reflect the musical mother tongue of her home province, Uppland. Swedish folk music is, by tradition, a solo genre. Any accompaniment needed is built into the tunes through rhythm. The musician brings all the "swing" that is needed, and Ditte creates a beautiful sound in a unique style.

FOLK/BLUEGRASS: Portland guitar wizard Marisa Anderson"s long awaited solo guitar record. Marisa has been a fixture on many a music scene for years and years playing with everyone from the Evolutionary Jass Band to Tara Jane O'Neil to The Dolly Ranchers. In any context, she can't escape her rag/blues/folk roots no matter how hard she tries. On this LP featuring only guitar - no vocals & no overdubs - we are treated to a very intimate sounding home recording filled with delicate grace. Comparisons to John Fahey & his ilk who do their hoodoo mystical rewrite of folk music is bound to occur, but close listening reveals a very original and yet truly rooted in the old style record that we hope will stand the test of time nicely.

FOLK/BLUEGRASS: Originally released on Grapefruit records in a idiotically limited edition, reissued here with new tracks. Marisa Anderson continues her streak of amazing solo guitar LP's. On first glance of the track listing you may feel like you've heard it all before - classic folk songs and anthems - but trust me, Marisa takes these tunes to places they have never been. The vibe is heavy on this one. The guitar playing is beautiful at points and intense at others. Not for the faint of heart. Comes with liner notes written by Marisa herself!

VOCALS - JAZZ & POP: A highly regarded bassist on the Northwest jazz scene for over thirty years, Clipper Anderson now steps out front making his long overdue recording debut as a vocalist. This twelve-track collection is an elegant assortment of obscure gems and popular classics, reflecting Anderson's deep musical roots. From the sprightly swing of Cole Porter's "Everything I Love" to Mancini's ethereal "Moment to Moment" and the wistful "Only the Lonely," Anderson's mellifluous voice glides effortlessly. With lush legato phrasing slightly reminiscent of Johnny Hartman, along with pianist Darin Clendenin's and drummer Mark Ivester's eloquent and flawless intuitive support, Anderson delivers a sparkling vocal jazz debut.
