JAZZ: This CD contains 14 rare and never before released tracks from the hey day of bebop, 1947-53. Allen Eager was one of the first to introduce the melodic vision of Lester Young into the bebop sound of the late 1940s and 1950s. This collection is a flashback from primarily two locations: the 1953 Boston broadcast from the Hi-Hat (quartet is accompanied by the Dick Twardzik Trio), as well as the "lost" Milton H. Greene private recordings from 1947 where Eager duels Serge Chaloff and has exchanges with Charlie Parker. Also features Bud Powell and Max Roach. 64 page booklet contains details and rare photos.

SOUL: This CD restores to catalog Toussaint's second album - titled originally Toussaint, then renamed From A Whisper To A Scream - augmented with the A- and B-sides of three Bell 45s from 1968 and 1969. Five of these have never been reissued in 35+ years. Originally released in 1970, New Orleans' eminent musical genius's solo LP was largely overlooked at the time but is nowadays considered to be a real masterpiece. A showcase for both Toussaint's widely admired piano playing and his unique bluesy voice, the contains the original versions of several of his best known songs, for himself and for other notables such as Lee Dorsey, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Palmer and Esther Phillips. Good though these are, Toussaint's recordings are the definitive versions.

VOCALS - JAZZ & POP: This is the first overview of the essential recordings of Oscar Brown Jr. on Columbia. This 23 track compilation includes tracks from all four of his Columbia albums, including seven tracks from his first, "Sin And Soul". Oscar was a pioneer of protest songwriting and he was a key figure in the early civil rights movement, as reflected in his lyrics. Many of his songs are famous in their own right - with mod and R&B clubbers especially fond of "Humdrum Blues" - and his songs "Work Song" and "The Snake" have become standards (this CD includes the original, superior versions). Of his four albums, only one has been reissued and this album sees 16 tracks released on CD for the first time.

ROCK: Since Washington DC was the home for The Fallen Angels, the band did not miss out on radicalizing the 1968 Presidential elections-letting their disparaging views on the LBJ and his "Great Society" be aired. Amidst all the politics is a great live performance by The Fallen Angels, combining original songs from their two psychedelic albums ("No Way Out", "Poor Old Man") with a previously unreleased song ("Everything Would Be Fine"), along with covers of Dylan (done acid-rock style), Donovan (raga-rock style), and Love (the highlight of the show, "Signed DC", a nine minute tour de force, interrupted by a fist fight in the audience). The Fallen Angels broke up a year later in 1969, but not before blowing many a mind on the east coast during their glorious reign in Washington DC.

ROCK: In 1965, Barry Seidel formed a music company called Traydel Productions. The first band Seidel signed was The Mad Hatters from Washington DC. In the course of one year the band released three stunningly great singles- "I Need Love", "Go Find A Love" and "I'll Come Running", all with Dylanesque-PF Sloan sounding folk-rock songs as the b-sides. The Fallen Angels were the second band Seidel signed and they are represented by a six song set of singles and unreleased recordings from 1966. These are the earliest recordings by the band and range from folk-rock (Pebble In My Sand, Hello Girl, I Have Found) to "Love"(Arthur Lee) type ballads (Have You Ever Lost A Love, Every Time I Fall In Love) and garage (Who Do You Love).

SOUL: 1972's "Life, Love and Faith" was Toussaint's first album for Warner Reprise. SOUL: Containing some of the best songs he's ever written, "Southern Nights" is Allen Toussaint's 1975 "swing for the fences" attempt at an all out masterpiece. Somewhat of a concept album, with reoccurring instrumental themes usually based on the title track popping up between songs, this album spawned at least two hits for other artists. The title track (minus the Lennonesque rotary speaker vocal effect) was a giant hit for Glen Campbell, and "What Do You Want The Girl To Do?" was one of several singles on Boz Skaggs' 1976 gazillion seller "Silk Degrees" and also recorded with some success by Bonnie Raitt. On 180 gram vinyl from 4 Men With Beards.

SPOKEN WORD/STORIES & EVENTS: Subtitled "Allen Ginsberg Reads Kaddish A 20th Century American Ecstatic American Narrative Poem," this 1966 Atlantic release was recorded in front of a live audience at Brandeis University in Boston in 1964. Based on the traditional Hebrew mourning prayer ("kaddish"), this poem is dedicated to Ginsberg's mother Naomi, who died in 1956 in a mental hospital. Written in 1958 in one non-stop 40 hour marathon session fueled by dexedrine, a tiny hit of LSD 25, and many cups of coffee, "Kaddish" stands as an epic testament to Ginsberg's literary talent. Original artwork featuring the cover photo by Richard Avedon. Original liner notes by Ginsberg and new in-depth notes by noted Beat-era scholar and writer Harvey Kubernik.
