After leaving Monk, he dropped out of music altogether until 1974 when he started recording again. In 1979, he co-founded Sphere, one of the best straight-ahead groups around. This CD pairs Rouse with his long-time friend Red Rodney (trumpet/flugelhorn), whose bop background, combined with his extraordinary lyricism, make "Social Call" a treat for fans of Rouse and Rodney.
