THE 1985 SESSIONS![]() ![]() (Stock on hand: 1) |
CD: $16.98 (US) - ($15.28 with *discount) | ACE - UK![]() |
8/5/2005 | |
ROCK: This is a fantastic 1985 'comeback' album from one of the legendary names in rockabilly, making its CD debut after nearly 20 years. Backed by the UK's own Johnny and the Roccos - whose own 1985 album was recorded at just about the same time, forming the second half of this CD - Cochran was still in fantastic vocal form when Mike Vernon took him into the studio to record these cuts - all of which were specially composed for the session. The original two albums featured here are augmented by both sides of a rare Roccos 45 and the band's storming, previously-unissued take on "Matchbox," recorded for, but omitted from, the "Tearin' Up The Border" album.

SOUL: Richard Stamz, a colourful Chicago DJ and TV show host, ventured into the record business in the early 60s with the Foxy and Paso labels. His main artist and right hand man was Harold Burrage whose 'Please Love Me' was the original of the Monk Higgins song which became a local R&B hit for Betty Everett three years later.Lee "Shot" Williams, 'Hello Baby' is simply lowdown dirty R&B at its best.

7: $12.98 (US) - ($11.68 with *discount) | KENT - UK![]() |
7/10/2015 | |
SOUL: There has been a constant demand for Mel Williams' Modern 45 'Can It Be Me' since it was first spun at the Torch all-nighters in the early 70s. Its classic 60s stomping sound has made it a Northern perennial. The flip is the original instrumental of Mary Love's 'Lay This Burden Down' that was pressed by Modern in 1974 for shady UK dealer Simon Soussain. Instrumentals are back in vogue and this is one of the very best.

DADDY PLEASE STAY HOME - YOU GET ME![]() ![]() (Stock on hand: 2) |
7: $17.98 (US) - ($16.18 with *discount) | KENT - UK![]() |
4/6/2018 | |
SOUL: Modern soul fans have been singing the praises of the 1975 master tape to Kent CD track 'Daddy Please Stay Home' by veteran soul singer Obrey Wilson. Wilson's sad and regretful vocal is perfect for this mid-tempo groove. Lee Brackett's bouncy, more jazz-influenced 'You Get To Me' is from a couple of years earlier and was also ignored for a release at the time. It is just waiting for an enterprising DJ to programme it into their set for future fame all round.

ANDY WILLIAMS/SINGS STEVE ALLEN![]() ![]() (Stock on hand: 1) |
CD: $16.98 (US) - ($15.28 with *discount) | ACE - UK![]() |
12/7/2007 | |
VOCALS - JAZZ & POP: The two albums presented on this new Ace CD have a special place in the hearts of Andy's millions of fans, in that they were the first two that he ever released. Recorded for Cadence Records, the label that brought Andy his first chart action and that set him on the road to superstardom, "Sings Steve Allen" and "Andy Williams" offer two different sides of the perennially popular balladeer. The first mentioned is an early 'concept album', comprised exclusively of compositions by the popular US TV show host of the 1950s. The eponymous title of the second covers a collection of Andy's earliest chart 45s and their flipsides, including many favorite Top 20 hits of the rock 'n' roll era.

CD: $16.98 (US) - ($15.28 with *discount) | ACE - UK![]() |

OLDIES: The best-selling female pop vocalist of the early 1960s, Brenda Lee was an international megastar who sold over 100 million records (she was voted Best Female Vocalist by the NME for five consecutive years) all before she was 21. And while it is true to say she reached the greatest number of record buyers by recording ballads, she also possessed one of the toughest rock'n'roll voices of that era - the greatest according to John Lennon. Here properly compiled for the first time are the rock'n'roll and bluesier recordings she made at the start of her career before she embraced the smooth certainties of the pop scene. It is a stand-alone release designed to wrap up these particular tunes.28 tracks including: Let's Jump The Broomstick, Rockin Around The Christmas Tree, Dynamite, Rock The Bop.
