SOUL:
The voice of the late, great Ted Taylor is one of the most unique and admired in 60s and 70s blues and soul music. A prolific recording artist for almost 30 years, the quantity of titles in his catalogue is matched track for track by their high quality. "Keep What You Get" brings together two dozen rarities from the Ronn vaults that were cut between 1969 and 1974 but that have mostly been un-reissued in the digital era.

Drummer Ted Sirota relocated to Chicago in 1992 after graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Sirota quickly became very active on the Chicago jazz scene performing with Von Freeman, Jodie Christian, Fred Hopkins, Lin Halliday, Rob Mazurek and many others. As a member of the Sabertooth Jazz Quartet, Sirota has been performing weekly at the Green Mill for seven years now and counting. Ted Sirota's Rebel Souls was formed in 1996 and have since released three albums. "Breeding Resistance" is the Delmark debut for the Rebel Souls which features Jeb Bishop, trombone; Geoff Bradfield, tenor sax; Jeff Parker, guitar; Clark Sommers, bass; Ted Sirota, drums.

This third installment of "United Doo Wops" features lots of uinissued songs and rare audition tapes with The Five C's, The Palms, The Earls, The Drakes, The Danderliers and others. The Five C's, of Gary, IN, had two 78s issued in 1954: "Tell Me"/"Whoo Wee Baby"(United 172) and "Goody Goody"/"My Heart's Got The Blues" (United 180). The remainder of this CD is seeing its first official domestic release, all from the original master tapes. Also available: "Chop Chop Boom" (DMK 703) and "Bang Goes My Heart" (DMK 761).

The Jelly Roll Jazz Band was recorded live at Clay's Barbecue Restaurant in Benicia, California on September 30, 1999, by Alice Scheelar. This kind of jazz, the original jazz, was created in New Orleans over one hundred years ago. During the 1920s it spread north to Chicago, and from there across the whole world. Also known as Dixieland jazz, it is a unique part of our American musical heritage.
