INSIDE (Stock on hand: 9) |
CD: $15.98 (US) - ($14.38 with *discount) | CHASE |
9/22/2009 | |
| JAZZ: Former George Shearing vibist Charlie Shoemake teams up with pianist Terry Trotter (Lena Horne, Natalie Cole, Joe Pass, Chet Baker) and various bass-drums combinations that include Darek Oles, Joe LaBarbera, Luther Hughes, Paul Krebich, Tom Warrington, and Steve Schaeffer. In addition to being virtually lifelong friends, Shoemake and Trotter share an affinity for the jazz of the 1940's, 50's and early 60's; jazz grounded in the harmonic and rhythmic traditions that shaped the post-bop, modern jazz era. It has been nearly twenty-five years since these two kindred spirits collaborated on a recording project, but it becomes immediately obvious that time has only enhanced their artistry. | |||||

HICKORY'S CAJUN HILLBILLY (Stock on hand: 1) |
CD: $19.98 (US) - ($17.98 with *discount) | ACE - UK |
7/6/2007 | |
| COUNTRY & WESTERN: A much-loved and collected 50s hillbilly hero finally makes his legal CD debut, with a handsome collection of his Hickory recordings and a few nice bonuses. Cajun Louisianan Al Terry was an early signing to Hickory and his career song Good Deal Lucille was the label's first hit. Besides Lucille he's also remembered for gems like Watch Dog and the Johnny Cash-like Roughneck Blue, both of which can be heard here in premium sound quality. Musicians of the calibre of the Kershaw brothers, Barkdull, Chet Atkins, Hank Garland, Floyd Cramer, Tommy Jackson and Al's steel guitar-playing brother Bob feature on this CD. The first Al Terry anthology since Bear Family's vinyl album released almost 25 years ago. | |||||

HOMETOWN FROLICS / TERRY CASHMAN (Stock on hand: 3) |
CD: $29.98 (US) - ($26.98 with *discount) | CHISWICK |
8/6/2010 | |
| ROCK: (2-CD set) Both Tommy West's "Hometown Frolics" and Terry Cashman's self-titled debut began as the fourth official Cashman & West album with the working title of "Back To The Dawn". It was intended to be the first LP released on their new label, Lifesong, named after their third album for ABC/Dunhill. But the pair found themselves moving in different directions during "Dawn's" recording process, so two intensely personal and musically divergent albums emerged from the sessions instead of just one. Included on this package are previously unreleased Cashman & West outtakes such as the original attempts at 'Things Are Getting Better Now', 'I'll Sing For You', 'David And Dawn', and a very raw 'Back To The Dawn' (whose rhythm section featured the rock group Crack The Sky), all of which reveal the process with which each of the solo albums began. They offer as much of a fly-on-the-wall's perspective as one can have on any recording project's history. For instance, one bonus track is the original version of 'Nightingale', an outtake from the album "Lifesong", re-recorded by West for his solo project as a more upbeat country-rocker modelled during the pop-reign of the Eagles. 'Song For Jane', another "Lifesong" outtake, was a candidate for Cashman's project, but never made the final cut. Also included is the single version of West's 'I Know', a charting 45 that featured the artist on layers of later-added musical instruments. | |||||

| SOUL: Since his come back to performing and recording in the early 90s, Terry Callier has become a bit of a phnomenom. He has filled massive venues, recorded a series of critically aclaimed new albums and had chart hits singing alongside Paul Weller, Massive Attack and Beth Orton. All of this has rested on the foundation of the recording he made for Prestige, Cadet and Elektra throughout the 60s and 70s ending with his amazing modern soul classic 'I Don't Want To See Myself (Without You)' on the Erect label. Until now there has never been a compilation that gave an overview of this era.17 tracks including: I Don't Want To See Myself (Without You), Ordinary Joe, Dancing Girl, I Just Can't Help Myself. | |||||

CD: $52.98 (US) - ($47.68 with *discount) | MASTER MUSIC |

| BLUES: When Terry Evans sings, people listen... and believe. For years, Evans voice has fueled albums by the likes of John Fogerty, John Lee Hooker and Ry Cooder. Terry's first album for AudioQuest Music, "Puttin' It Down", was called "one for the ages" by Stereophile magazine. "Come to the River", featuring some very special guests, is quite simply, Terry's best album to date. The sessions (with help from Cooder) were joyous. The music... pure magic! "One of the best voices in the business." - Rolling Stone. Contains 10 great songs including "Get Up, Get Ready", "The River", "What You Need" and many more. This extended resolution CD (XRCD24) from JVC brings the listener higher fidelity and improved audio quality by enhancing the process of mastering and manufacturing compact discs.
