BLUES: This re-release of the title deleted in 1997 features 19 blues recordings from Mississippi Delta bluesman Son House. He's on guitar & vocals, joined by Willie Brown, Fiddlin' Joe Martin & Leory Williams. A portion of this was recorded at Klack's Store, Lake Cormorant, Mississippi. Note: there are some railway noises in the background on some titles, as the store, which had electricity necessary for the recording, was close to a branch-line between the Lake & Robinsonville, where the remaining titles were recorded.

OLDIES: These recordings feature the early days of the group that brought you "Little Bitty Pretty One," "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow," and "The Bird's The Word," as well as singing vocal backups for everyone from Paul Anka to Duane Eddy. This is the first legitimate reissue of this important cache of mid-'50s (mostly) uptempo doo wop. Features the lead vocals of the late Thurston Harris, who went on to have many solo R&B chart hits in the second half of the 1950s. All tracks transferred directly from the original Federal production masters - you will have never heard this music in such clarity.

BLUES: (2-CD set) Almost universally referred to as the post-war King Of Texas Blues, Lightnin Hopkins enjoyed a virtually continuous recording career from his first visit to a recording studio in 1946 until his death in 1982. With hundreds of recordings made for dozens of record labels, Lightnin remains one of the most prolific (and popular) of all blues artists, as the numerous CD reissues of his recordings demonstrate. In a world of several hundred Lightnin Hopkins compilations, mostly of dubious quality, this is the definitive overview of his long career and is certain to prove essential to die-hard Hopkins collectors and novice blues buyers alike.

BLUES: Memphis Slim's United recordings deserve special acknowledgement because, to put it bluntly, they're his best. "Memphis Slim U.S.A." (DMK #710) presented the last two of his four United sessions. Now, this CD brings listeners the complete first two sessions plus two auditions. There's much new to savor here, including 11 never before released tracks containing two real revelations: super-guitarist Matt "Guitar" Murphy's first recorded vocal "Cool Down Baby" with a jaw-dropping guitar intro, as well as the initial 1952 version of "The Come Back" played as a straight slow blues cut lacking the stop time arrangement. It's piano blues at it's best.

BLUES: In February 1957, Bob Koester wrote in his newsletter, The Jazz Report, that recent rediscoveries of legendary artists Big Joe Williams and Speckled Red gave information on other forgotten musicians from the 1920s. Koester was told that Paramount and Decca recording artist Barrelhouse Buck McFarland was still around St Louis and he passed that info along to Charlie O'Brien, a fellow member of the St Louis Jazz Club and a St Louis policeman. Buck, the aged entertainer, rugged barrelhouse pianist and marvelous blues singer enjoyed the new interest in his work. Henry Brown, and especially Speckled Red, created new careers and Buck might have as well, but he passed just 8 months after this 1961 recording.

JAZZ: New York guitarist Howard Alden and Chicago guitarist Andy Brown co-lead a swinging two-guitar quartet session. Playing a mix of standards, Brazilian tunes, and songs by fellow jazz guitarists, this recording documents a fifteen-year relationship between the two musicians. "Howard Alden belongs to a small, elite group of the very best jazz guitarists in the world." - guitar legend Johnny Smith "Brown and Alden don't merely mimic an earlier era in jazz history-they build upon it, offering a freshness of spirit that transcends any particular period or style." - Chicago Tribune

COUNTRY & WESTERN: He didn't have many hits as a singer, but Howard Crockett wrote Honky Tonk Man, Ole Slew Foot, Whispering Pines, and All Grown Up. All Johnny Horton hits. On the strength of Honky Tonk Man, he signed a contract with Dot Records, and this CD includes all his Dot/Hamilton recordings together with the legendarily rare Manco singles, as well as the never-reissued-until-now Smash recordings. Serious rockabilly collectors have long been aware of Howard Crockett. With this CD everyone can now appreciate a true original talent in the same vein as Johnny Horton and Johnny Cash but with a style all his own.
