| VOCALS - JAZZ & POP: Vocalist Sunny Wilkinson teams up with pianist Tom Garvin to explore (and advance) the art of the duo. The musical empathy that is shared by these two artists is truly extraordinary as they give-and-take on a program that includes "It Could Happen to You," "But Not for Me," "Triste," "But Beautiful," and others. "Sunny Wilkinson is at the top of her game here. She has spent a lot of time refining her craft in the trenches and now emerges as a master songstress able to get inside of a song and find its essential emotional core." - Don Mizell, co-producer, Ray Charles "Genius Loves Company" (Grammy Album of the Year, 2005) | |||||

I'M SO SATISFIED - THE COMPLETE KO KO RECORDINGS AND MORE (Stock on hand: 2) |
CD: $19.98 (US) - ($17.98 with *discount) | KENT - UK |
11/2/2007 | |
| SOUL: Superior Muscle Shoals-recorded Southern (and Northern) soul from a hero of fans of both genres, finally receiving its first ever UK release 30 years after it was recorded. Tommy Tate has never been prolific in his recorded output, but almost everything he's ever recorded is highly rated in Soul circles. This CD brings together everything that Tate recorded for Ko Ko records between 1971 and 1977, and adds three tracks that he cut for Stax just prior to the earliest of his Ko Ko sessions, as lead singer of the Nightingales. The only previous issue of the Ko Ko material on CD came more than 10 years ago, via a Japanese limited edition that sold out almost as soon as it was pressed. Demand for these tracks has increased considerably through that limited run, and the exposure that 'If You've Got To Love Somebody', in particular, has received via both the Northern and Modern Soul scenes. The word is already out among soul collectors that this project is imminent, and they are suitably excited about the prospect of buying a copy. | |||||

HOMETOWN FROLICS / TERRY CASHMAN (Stock on hand: 1) |

| ROCK: (2-CD set) Both Tommy West's "Hometown Frolics" and Terry Cashman's self-titled debut began as the fourth official Cashman & West album with the working title of "Back To The Dawn". It was intended to be the first LP released on their new label, Lifesong, named after their third album for ABC/Dunhill. But the pair found themselves moving in different directions during "Dawn's" recording process, so two intensely personal and musically divergent albums emerged from the sessions instead of just one. Included on this package are previously unreleased Cashman & West outtakes such as the original attempts at 'Things Are Getting Better Now', 'I'll Sing For You', 'David And Dawn', and a very raw 'Back To The Dawn' (whose rhythm section featured the rock group Crack The Sky), all of which reveal the process with which each of the solo albums began. They offer as much of a fly-on-the-wall's perspective as one can have on any recording project's history. For instance, one bonus track is the original version of 'Nightingale', an outtake from the album "Lifesong", re-recorded by West for his solo project as a more upbeat country-rocker modelled during the pop-reign of the Eagles. 'Song For Jane', another "Lifesong" outtake, was a candidate for Cashman's project, but never made the final cut. Also included is the single version of West's 'I Know', a charting 45 that featured the artist on layers of later-added musical instruments. | |||||
