JAZZ:
Oliver Lake's String Project combines this masterful alto player with a contingent of string virtuosi and other guest artists in a program that also showcases his compositional talents. The title piece features violinist Regina Carter together with pianist Donal Fox. This well-matched duo weaves moving improvisations and haunting lyricism around the melancholy Lake composition. The string quartet darts in and out of Lake's playing for a very effective combination of the two musical schools. The strings set the tempo for the tunes and allow Lake to explore the variant aspects of the pieces.
