LOUISIANA MEN - THE COMPLETE HICKORY RECORDINGS (Stock on hand: 2) |
CD: $29.98 (US) - ($26.98 with *discount) | ACE - UK |
7/2/2004 | |
| OLDIES: (2-CD set) For the first time on CD, here are the complete Hickory recordings of the Cajun-hillbilly legends and their close associate Wiley Barkdull. R&D's composition "Louisiana Man" has been recorded hundreds of times in the wake of their own 1961 hit version. Their original song is here, along with its famous follow up "Diggy Liggy Lo" and their rockabilly classic "Hey Mae" (later revived by Shakin' Stevens). Their bass-singing, piano-playing compatriot Barkdull is heard on both the Kershaw's recordings and his own, which include further rockabilly classics like "Ain't Gonna Waste My Time" and "Too Many." None of Barkdull's sides have ever been reissued legally on CD before. | |||||

ALL BY MYSELF - THE MUSIC OF IRVING BERLIN, 1921-33 (Stock on hand: 5) |
CD: $31.98 (US) - ($28.78 with *discount) | AUDIOPHILE |
8/2/2002 | |
| BIG BAND: (2-CD set) Irving Berlin once said "it is much more difficult for me to write successes now because people expect so much from me on account of previous hits." He said this to an interviewer in 1919 on the eve of the greatest productivity and successes ever known to any songwriter. This double album covers this period, which included his classic waltz ballads and the Music Box revues, the Ziegield Follies, the songs for early talkies, and much more. Rusty Dedrick's orchestra concentrates on 13 years, only a fraction of Berlin's tenure as the nation's musical laureate. | |||||
