SOUL: This is the first-time "complete on CD" reissue for these two rare mid-'60s duet albums by the King and Queen of Scepter-Wand Records. Both artists are proven sellers via Kent's earlier solo reissues of each's Wand albums, and both artists are still active performers on the soul circuit. As one might expect, several of the tracks were also released as successful US R&B chart 45s for the duo. The comparatively brief running time of the two original albums is enhanced by the addition of four solo Chuck Jackson tracks that were 'A' and 'B' sides of some of his final singles for Wand Records. Three of them have never been reissued before.

SOUL: Kent is still finding new vintage material from Maxine's Wand years and there are three previously unheard tracks on this 28 track compilation. Two tracks are from CDs on the Ace label never before on Kent and the dancers' favorite "Am I Falling In Love" is on a solo Maxine CD for the first time. "Why Did I Choose You" is a great new uptempo dance find to accompany the original Kent-released Northern Soul tracks like "It's Torture" and "I Want A Guarantee". Northern classics "One In A Million" and "Let Me Give You My Lovin'" are on here, side by side with Maxine's Brill Building ballads "Oh No Not My Baby" and "It's Gonna Be Alright".

VOCALS - JAZZ & POP: Maxine retired briefly in the '50s following a long solo career, and worked as a nurse & became active in Bronx community affairs and founded House That Jazz Built while married to stride pianist Cliff Jackson. She resumed her vocal career in the '70s, touring internationally with WGJB & SS Norway with Dick Hyman & Bob Wilber. She recorded with Benny Carter, John Kirby & Teddy Wilson. This LP was recorded in March 1984 w//Keith Ingham, Bob Reitmeier, Lynn Seaton & John Von Ohle in Ford Chapel, Meadville, PA & @ Walt Harper's Club in Pittsburgh.

JAZZ: Guitarist Simon James set up the hugely successful band Acoustic Alchemy in 1980, along with his musical partner Nick Webb. In 1985, James left to be replaced by Greg Carmichael. Sadly, Webb died of cancer in 1998 and it was then that James decided to record this tribute with his new band, Kymaera, which is similiar in style to Acoustic Alchemy. The band features a host of well-known U.K. jazz musicians, including Dave O'Higgins, Shane Hill, Dave Markee, Dick Pierce, Greg Carmichael, Michele Drees, as well a two tracks with internationally renowned opera singer Maria Ewing.

FOLK/BLUEGRASS: "Lunasa With The Rte Concert Orchestra" is a glittering collection of tunes sparked from a brilliant union of two of Ireland's brightest musical stars - a remarkable traditional Irish music band and Ireland's treasured national orchestra. Their first joint effort was a sold-out performance at Dublin's National Concert Hall on June 19, 2012 that was broadcast on Ireland's RTE Radio 1, followed later in the year by the recording of the album. The RTE Concert Orchestra, whose credits include projects with talents as diverse as Luciano Pavarotti and Jon Lord of Deep Purple and Ireland's Sinead O'Connor and Imelda May, is conducted by David Brophy. Film footage of the concert is included on the CD.

JAZZ: A most underrated trumpeter, Charles Sullivan has excellent technique, fine tone, a bright shimmering sound, and simply has not gotten the credit he deserves. Sullivan studied at the Manhattan School of Music in the 60s, played with Lionel Hampton and Roy Haynes in the late 60s, then toured briefly as Count Basie's lead trumpeter in 1970 and with Lonnie Liston Smith in 1971. He played with Sy Oliver in 1972 and toured Europe and recorded with Abdullah Ibrahim in 1973, then worked and recorded with Sonny Fortune, Carlos Garnett, Bennie Maupin, Ricky Ford, Eddie Jefferson and Woody Shaw through the remainder of the 70s. This rare session from August 1976 has him leading a fine band with sax man Rene McLean together with the Kenny Barron Trio.
