8/5/2011 | |
| SOUL: The Hytones 'Good News' heralded a return to gritty southern style vocals on the Northern Soul scene and though it went massive from its life as a 100 Club anniversary single, is at last available on vinyl to the general public. The flip is the super-rarity 'What's Your Name' by Young Brothers; an Anthony C Renfro LA production and perpetually in-demand. Limited press of 1000 copies. | |||||

FIFTY MILES TO TRAVEL (Stock on hand: 1) |
CD: $19.98 (US) - ($17.98 with *discount) | ACE - UK |
10/7/2005 | |
| COUNTRY & WESTERN: The second in Ace's series of King acetate restorations offers an overview of the important recordings by one of hillbilly music's most renowned 'brother' acts. Many of the acetates from which these recordings were taken had not been played in almost 50 years, prior to the transfers that were made for this 24 track CD. As is the policy throughout this series, where the acetate for the master take has been lost or destroyed, Ace has used the most significant of the alternates available to them. Few of these tracks have ever been reissued before. Most have been unavailable for over half a century. | |||||

JAMBO (Stock on hand: 1) |
DS: $5.98 (US) - ($5.38 with *discount) | JAMBO |
2/3/2006 | |
| ROCK: Ace is proud to release one of the weirdest and wackiest singles ever recorded. 'Jambo' features Claude McLin's lunatic yet brilliant attempt to verbalize the sound of a jew's harp - and if you think that's easy, then have a go yourself to the instrumental karaoke version. The track has already featured in the movie "Dodgeball" and more recntly on Sky TV's "Malcolm In The Middle". Danny Baker has featured the song regularly on his radio show, with listeners phoning in to attempt to sing along. Taken from the Ace CD "Great Googa Mooga" (ACE #880) which features another 20-odd slices of nonsensical verbal! | |||||

LONG TIME GONE (Stock on hand: 2) |
CD: $19.98 (US) - ($17.98 with *discount) | ACE - UK |
6/2/2006 | |
| COUNTRY & WESTERN: This hugely important 1940s hillbilly 'brother act' has never been previously represented on CD. Like their label mates the Delmore Brothers (already represented in Ace's "King Acetates' Series"), the Detroit-born and-based Yorks were an abiding influence on all the close harmony country acts who came up in their wake - especially the Everly Brothers, who later recorded the Yorks' 'Long Time Gone' on their "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us" album. No less than 10 of these recordings have made their worldwide debut after nearly 60 years in acetate limbo. Features a fully detailed sleeve notes by King hillbilly expert Dave Sax and a host of rare pictures and record label shots. | |||||

THE LATER KING YEARS (Stock on hand: 1) |
CD: $19.98 (US) - ($17.98 with *discount) | ACE - UK |
10/5/2007 | |
| FOLK/BLUEGRASS: This CD covers the last four years of the Stanleys' career on King Records - 1961-65 - a career that was cruelly terminated by the death of Carter Stanley in 1966. Focusing primarily on tracks that were released on 45s by King, some posthumously, this package includes some of the best vocal and instrumental performances that Carter, Ralph and various line-ups of their group, the Clinch Mountain Boys, laid down during a career that spanned a quarter of a century. Highlights include Don't Cheat In Our Hometown, Old And In The Way, Train 45, Shout Little Lulie and Still Trying To Get To Little Rock. | |||||

SOUNDS OF GOODBYE (Stock on hand: 3) |
CD: $19.98 (US) - ($17.98 with *discount) | BIG BEAT |
11/7/2003 | |
| COUNTRY & WESTERN: Here's the first-ever retrospective devoted to the Gosdin Brothers, (best known as the launchpad for future country superstar Vern Gosdin), one of the finest and unwittingly cutting edge acts of the late '60s Bakersfield country rock renaissance. 1968's "Sounds Of Goodbye" is regarded as one of the most satisfying blends of country, pop and folk-rock that the era produced. This 24 track CD contains the contents of the "Sounds Of Goodbye" album and its attendant non-LP Bakersfield Int'l sides, along with unreleased material and esoteric singles, including their legendary Edict 45. Produced by Chris Hillman in 1966, it features accompaniment from Hillman, Michael Clarke and Clarence White. | |||||

7: $14.98 (US) - ($13.48 with *discount) | BGP |
3/4/2011 | |
| SOUL: The Philips Brothers 'I Got Hurt (Pt 1)' is one of the most sought after classics from the Deep Funk era and is an incredibly hard item to track down on its original release on Now. We've put it together - with its originally unreleased and distinctly wild part two - to save you the bother of tracking it down. | |||||

LIVE AT THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART (Stock on hand: 1) |
CD: $19.98 (US) - ($17.98 with *discount) | BGP |
11/7/2003 | |
| SOUL: The Pazant Brothers were one of the funkiest groups working in the late '60s early '70s. Their singles on Perception, GWP, RCA and their Vanguard album all go for large sums. This is an unreleased live album from 1971, recorded at the Museum Of Modern Art in New York. It's a unique insight into the rawness of small group live funk. The 10 tracks feature a selection of tunes that would be recorded by the band over the following years as well as three tracks featuring the under-recorded singer Betty Barney, including a version of her GWP single "Momma Momma." | |||||

THE BROTHERS FUNK - RARE NEW YORK CITY FUNK 1969-75 (Stock on hand: 7) |
CD: $33.98 (US) - ($30.58 with *discount) | BGP |
11/4/2005 | |
| SOUL: This 23 track CD starts with the the Pazant Bros. rare GWP singles. These 6 tracks are joined by the both sides of the single that they released as the Chili Peppers, the 2 tracks that only appeared on rare GWP compilation albums, as well as an unreleased version of 'High Heel Sneakers.' Only 2 of these tracks have ever been reissued. Their single from the Vigor label, 'Chica Boom,' backed with 'Greasy Greens' is included, both sides are now sought after by DJs and sample collectors. This also has the whole of the band's 1975 album for Vanguard, "Loose And Juicy," that revisited and updated much of their earlier material. Booklet includes interviews with Al and Ed Pazant, and the band's producer Ed Bland. | |||||
| PUCHO & THE LATIN SOUL BROTHERS |
BIG STICK / DATELINE (Stock on hand: 36) |
CD: $19.98 (US) - ($17.98 with *discount) | BGP |
8/10/2012 | |
| JAZZ: "Big Stick" has a mix of Latin, soul and jazz and features the talents of pianist Neil Creque. Unusual for Pucho records there is no horn section which allows the vocal chorus and the percussion to shine through. 'Swamp People' and 'Left In The Cold' make this a highly collectable album. "Dateline" does include a horn section and Pazant Brothers and Fania All-Stars member Barry Rogers creates a vibrant front line to make up for the fact that there was no vocals on this LP. This album is the absolute peak of Pucho's recording career, and the wonderful 'Yambo' would still fill a dancefloor. This two-on-one is remastered from the original sources and comes with an sleeve note by project supervisor, Dean Rudland. 15 tracks in all. | |||||
