Licensed from Kenny himself, this compilation takes tracks from several albums, including the OST of "Looking For An Echo", "Lover's Island" and "Out Of This World". LOVE WITHOUT TRUST (Stock on hand: 5) |
CD: $15.98 (US) - ($14.38 with *discount) | DELMARK |
6/1/2001 | |
| BLUES: On this, his second album as leader, Ken's piano, vocal & writing talents are showcased in a larger ensemble than on his successful debut, "Foolish Man". Joined on many cuts by a five piece band, Ken's music is reminiscent of some of his best work with the eclectic roots band Big Shoulders. Continuing to draw from the deep well of American music styles, he once again provides a musical mix that, while broad in scope, never strays too far from his roots in the blues. Trust this: this album is blues brawn with a brain! | |||||

NOIR BLUE (Stock on hand: 18) |
CD: $15.98 (US) - ($14.38 with *discount) | CAPRI |
3/16/2010 | |
| JAZZ: Throughout his career, Ken Peplowski has been categorized by most critics as a traditional jazz musician and heir to the Benny Goodman throne. His new recording, Noir Blue, shows that he is more diverse as a player and composer. Doubling on clarinet and tenor saxophone, Peplowski weaves through beautifully arranged and seldom heard tunes by Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Irving Berlin and others as well as originals by fellow band mates, Shelly Berg and Joe La Barbara. Peplowski's compositional contribution is Little Dogs, inspired by Ornette Coleman and titled from a quote by Russian author and playwright, Anton Chekhov. Capri will be running ads in Downbeat Magazine. The first will be appearing in their May 2010 issue. Peplowski will be touring extensively supporting the title. | |||||

IN SEARCH OF... (Stock on hand: 49) |
CD: $15.98 (US) - ($14.38 with *discount) | CAPRI |
3/15/2011 | |
| JAZZ: Ken Peplowski shows his diversity on this blending of two sessions, the first 8 tunes reuniting him with pianist Shelly Berg with rhythm support of Tom Kennedy and Jeff Hamilton and the remaining 3 tunes pairing off with bassist Greg Cohen, drummer Joe Ascione and vibist Chuck Redd. Peplowski's clarinet playing is unrivaled with the purist tone and most urbane facility around today. His tenor sound, while reminiscent of Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster is easily distinguishable as his and his alone. The tunes are seldom heard standards ripe for rediscovery and a few originals by his fellow band members. Peplowski helps keep true mainstream jazz alive while always adding a fresh perspective. Will be touring nationally and internationally this year. | |||||

| INTERNATIONAL: Born in ex-colonial Gabon, educated at the Sorbonne in Paris in the '60s, and a driving force behind the "Lambarena" project (a hommage to J.S Bach including pygmy vocal traditions!), Pierre Akendengue is recognized as a major influence by most people with a passion for African musical culture, both as composer-lyricist, singer-guitarist and as a general agitator for sounds from this continent. This new album is the thoughtful next step in this creative anthology. | |||||
